A cloud drifts by as we lie on the grass in sandals,
But clouds no longer have any meaning for me,
Shapes and shadows make small fodder for laughter;
But now the sun shines through them

The brushing breeze floats over us,
Looking lazy at the blue expanse above,
It stretches on forever; its space, our empty future,
Waiting for us to fill it with what we will;
With whatever we will

Dark clouds may sometimes dim the sky
With a passing pall of permeating grey,
But now, this new, retains its azure hue

Brightened by the sun you wear
so softly with your eyes

“Man was matter, that was Snowden’s secret. Drop him out a window and he’ll fall. Set fire to him and he’ll burn. Bury him and he’ll rot, like other kinds of garbage. The spirit gone, man is garbage.” Joseph Heller – Catch 22

Snowden’s secret haunts him
Lurking low and languid wraps around him
A matter of man gushing forth his
Protected, tangible essence

Snowden’s secret lays bare before him
Spilling soft and sanguine there beneath him
When all that we see is all that there is
We are blind

Snowden’s secret, safe from the cold around him
Erected irrepressible shines before him
A man may cut and bleed and bruise and break
Yet, he is more

Snowden’s secret, whispered soft around him
Showing shallow surface we perceive him
A bone machine of clinking clanging parts
He is more

The now of my existence
is yours

Each shifting present
wades deeper
in waves of
meandering moments,
while encapsulated
entities of past,
created of themselves,
float in a sea of was

Yesterday’s moon
wanes to the
crescent of today,
In heavenly patience
It pulls back the tide
to expose the pristine,
bare beach

It is yet untouched;
It is yet unfulfilled;
It waits,

open and wanting

I am lighter when I breathe
deep and feel your helium
love fill me

Then, sinking back
into myself as it escapes
I am nourished and enlivened

Filling me like a drug
as it starts to come on
working its way through
my veins and into my mind

Your soft intoxication
dulls the edges of my grief
yet sharpens the clarity
of my purpose

I close my eyes and see you
lighter than air
I could wrap you up
in a plastic red balloon
but I needn’t tie you to my wrist

You will always float nearby

You are the foundation of a strong house
holding the edifice with your love, your words,
your reproof, and the soft caress of your hands

I want to protect you from the winds
of deceit and pain that swirl around us

I see the ocean of your existence before me
a grand expanse of depth and movement
flowing freely where it will
- it cannot be tamed
- it cannot be encapsulated

I want to breathe you deep into my soul
and savor the taste of your essence

As time passes your flower unfolds around me
I pull back the petals,
- the soft feminine strength of violet blooms,
I glimpse the filaments,
- dripping with the nectar of your force

You are the sun, shining on this moment
feeding the life around you with
undeniable presence

I want to hold you in my arms and feel your
light at the center of my existence

I want to lift you up on a pedestal
and let the world see you shine
